Meet UE-passionate Paloma Belda – Paloma tells us about her Universal Education journey

Paloma es educadora y desde hace tiempo guía sesiones de grupo trabajando con las 16Actitudes a través del centro budista Tekchen Choeling en Ontinyent de cuya dirección también se hace cargo.  En esta entrevista Paloma nos cuenta su increíble trayectoria personal con Educación Universal y lo que en su opinión la hace tan relevante hoy en día.

Paloma works as an educator and for a long time has been leading group sessions working with the 16 Guidelines, she is also the director of the Tekchen Choeling Buddhist centre in Ontinyent, Spain. In this interview Paloma tells us about her incredible personal journey with UE and why she thinks UE is so relevant for today.

FDCW: Paloma, llevas mucho tiempo involucrada con la Educación Universal. Cuéntanos un poco como ha sido tu trayectoria. ¿Cómo conociste EU y qué te inspiró para querer compartir esto con los demás?

Paloma: Bueno, con las 16 actitudes no llevo tanto tiempo, pero sí conocí Educación Universal hace muchos años, como unos 30, cuando tuve mi primer hijo, de hecho, participe en algún campamento de E.U., también en algún encuentro e hicimos durante algún tiempo actividades para niños basadas en Educación Universal en Ontinyent.

La verdad, me fascinó la sabiduría de Lama Yeshe en cuanto a principios educativos y recursos para niños y padres.

Luego, durante algunos años hubo poco movimiento en E.U. y mis hijos ya se iban haciendo mayores, así que me desconecte de E.U. por un tiempo.

En el 2018, el director del centro budista en aquel momento, invitó a Marisa Femenia a impartir el 1º nivel de las 16 Actitudes a Ontinyent y fue un éxito, me encantó y tuve la oportunidad de reconectar con educación universal y conocer con detalle las 16A.

A partir de entonces organizamos un taller mensual para seguir trabajando con ellas y por sugerencia de Marisa me dedique personalmente a coordinarlos. Muy inspirada por esta nueva temática, revisé todo mi material de Lama Yeshe en particular y Educación Universal en general y encontré una fuente de inspiración enorme para incorporar a los talleres.

En el 2018 asistí a un encuentro de las 16 actitudes en el centro de Vajrayogini en Francia, en donde por cuatro días recibimos muchísimo aprendizaje sobre las actitudes y como incorporarlas en nuestra vida.

Aunque en el 2020 tuvimos que dejar de ofrecer los talleres, ahora hemos podido continuar con la dinámica mensual con muy buena respuesta por parte de las personas que ya conocían las 16A y algunas nuevas que se van sumando. También ofrezco semanalmente una clase online basada en las 16A a través del centro budista de Ontinyent.

Cada vez que ofrecemos un taller siento que ha valido el esfuerzo, quedo más convencida del beneficio que aporta a las personas.

FDCW: En tu experiencia, ¿Qué hace que EU sea tan poderosa?

Paloma: Lo que hace que sean tan poderosas a mi modo de verlo, es que es algo que todas las personas compartimos, que podemos comunicarnos a través de ellas independientemente de la edad, sexo, país, religión o creencia que tengamos, es un lenguaje universal y humano, en el que todas encontramos un punto de encuentro y de dialogo, sin más, desde la naturalidad, desde la esencia

FDCW: En tu opinión, ¿Qué hace que EU sea relevante en estos momentos que vivimos y qué pequeños pasos puede dar alguien hoy que puedan ser beneficiosos para sí mismo y para los demás?

Paloma: Es algo en lo que pienso muchísimo, la sociedad esta carente de métodos saludables que sean fiables, que garanticen el bienestar de las personas, que sean entregados o desvelados solo con el único propósito de beneficiar, de un modo genuino. Creo que cualquier persona que desee conocer mejor sus propias cualidades y su potencial para realizarlas puede encontrar en las 16A una fuente de crecimiento y realización. Son accesibles, claras y están acompañadas de unas herramientas de trabajo dinámicas e incluso me atrevería a decir divertidas.

FDCW: Para terminar, nos gustaría preguntarte: "En tus propias palabras, la Educación Universal es ..." 

Paloma: Educación universal y las 16 actitudes son una metodología completa y sencilla a la vez que profunda para extraer la belleza que cada ser humano lleva en su interior. Una sabiduría disponible para toda persona que quiera producir felicidad para sí misma y para las que le rodean.

FDCW: Paloma, you have been involved with Universal Education for a long time. Tell us a bit about your journey. How did you find out about the UE and what inspired you to want to share it with others?

Paloma: Truly speaking I haven’t been working with the 16 Guidelines for that long, but I did connect with Universal Education many years ago, about 30 years ago, when I had my first child, in fact, I participated in some UE camps and meetings and for a while, we organized activities for children based on Universal Education in Ontinyent.

The truth is, I was fascinated by Lama Yeshe's wisdom regarding the principles of education and resources for children and parents.

Then things got a bit quiet with the group and my children were getting older, so I drifted off  for a while.

In 2018, the director of the centre at that time, invited Marisa Femenia to lead a 16 Guidelines level 1 workshop in Ontinyent and it was a success, I loved it and had the opportunity to reconnect with universal education and learn about the 16A in detail.

From then on, we organized monthly sessions to continue working with the 16G and, at Marisa's suggestion, I started coordinating them. Very inspired by this new theme, I reviewed all the info I had on Lama Yeshe and Universal Education in general and found a huge source of inspiration to incorporate into the sessions.

In 2018 I attended a 16G International gathering at the Vajrayogini centre in France, where for four days we enjoyed learning about the guidelines and how to incorporate them into our lives.

After a period of inactivity due the pandemic, we have resumed the face to face monthly sessions with a very good response from old and new participants and we have introduced a weekly 16G-based class online through the Ontinyent Buddhist Center.

Every time we offer a workshop I feel that the effort has been worth it, I am more convinced of the benefit it brings to people.

FDCW: In your experience, what makes UE so powerful?

Paloma: What makes it so powerful, in my view, is that it is something that we all share, that we can use to communicate with each other regardless of age, sex, country, religion or belief. It is a universal language in which we can find a meeting point, a dialogue that arises naturally, just like that, from a place of essence.

FDCW: In your opinion, what makes UE relevant in the times we live in and what small steps can someone take today that can be beneficial for themselves and for others?

Paloma: It is something that I think a lot about. Our society lacks reliable tools that can guarantee the well-being of people, that are delivered or shared with the sole purpose of benefiting in a genuine way. I believe that anyone who wants to understand their own qualities and their potential to achieve them more clearly, can find in the 16G a source of growth and fulfilment. They are accessible, clear and are accompanied by dynamic and  would dare to say, fun tools.

FDCW: In your own words, Universal Education is......

Paloma: Universal Education and the 16 Guidelines offer a complete, simple but yet profound methodology to extract the beauty that each human being has inside. A wisdom available to anyone who wants to find happiness for himself and for those around him.
