Following on from last year’s session Wisdom and Compassion in the Eye of the Storm, Paul will guide a workshop that explores the question “Where might we find joy in the midst of extinction?”. The workshop will include practice, inquiry, and discussion. It will showcase snapshots of views from activists and engaged Buddhists, as well as reflections on joy in spiritual practice, activism and, of course, even in extinction itself.

When we accompany a dying person, compassion and wisdom become real and practical. We are challenged to be present even though we may feel powerless: To stay when we want to run, to love while loss is just around the corner, and to be fully alive to every moment as time is running out. In this session, we will explore the questions:

  • What can we say or do when nothing can be done?

  • How can we stay sane, grounded and kind in the midst of chaos, loss and grief?

  • How can we help a dying person connect with their sources of strength and meaning?

  • What about unfinished business or challenging family dynamics?

  • How can we offer our spiritual support at the moment of death and beyond?

The mind is very powerful. Therefore, it requires firm guidance. A powerful jet plane needs a good pilot; the pilot of your mind should be the wisdom that understands its nature. - Lama Thubten Yeshe.

During this presentation, Ven Robina Courtin explores what is mind and how we can take control of it.
