Love, Presence & Embodiment

with Paula Chichester - Recorded session

"Cultivate an inner landscape of nourishment, love and acceptance. Once we feel safe and connected, awareness naturally arises."- Paula Chichester

The Big Love Summit opened with a powerful presentation from Paula Chichester on how to discover a sense of self that is spacious and in the nature of love. The stresses of our daily life mean our nervous system is often operating in fight/flight/freeze mode. To transform this, Paula led three guided exercises. The first was a simple technique working on the vagal nerve. The second was about feeling safe and connected. The third was how we can resource ourselves. Once we feel safe and connected, awareness naturally arises. We can move from “I should be more compassionate” feelings in the brain to genuine feelings of compassion in the heart. Love can be felt throughout the entire body and mind. And it heals. By cultivating our inner landscape of nourishment, love and acceptance, genuine compassion can grow. This becomes easier as we become more familiar and our neural pathways respond and change. We can literally re-wire our brain and heart.

Choose joy. Choose it like a child chooses the shoe to put on the right foot, the crayon to paint a sky. Choose it at first consciously, effortfully, pressing against the weight of a world heavy with reasons for sorrow, restless with need for action. Feel the sorrow, take the action, but keep pressing the weight of joy against it all, until it becomes mindless, automated, like gravity pulling the stream down its course; until it becomes an inner law of nature… Joy is not a function of a life free of friction and frustration, but a function of focus — an inner elevation by the fulcrum of choice.” - Maria Popova

Reclaiming Joy

with Tenzin Chogkyi - Recorded session

"Use joy as a litmus test for your work to benefit others. If there's no joy, it's time to give yourself permission to rest." Tenzin Chogkyi

Tenzin Chogkyi took us on a powerful journey examining the notion that spirituality is about striving and pushing. She challenged the idea that we must work constantly for others and never rest. She described four powers: Aspiration, Steadfast, Joy and Rest. We often skip over the rest part. That means that we can quickly become joyless, even resentful. Instead, we can give ourself permission to rest. So that we can return to helping and serving with delight, lightness, it's effortless - not heavy or dutiful. Use joy as a Litmus Test for how you help others. If there’s a lack of joy, it’s time to step back, rest and re-charge. Discover what gives you joy. And remember that joy is contagious. She led a meditation to show us ways to reconnect with our joy.
